One Goal for The Next 10 Years

What is the one thing you want to work on for the next 10 years?

It is easy to set short-term lofty goals. But your health is for life.

If you had to pick one thing to focus on for the next decade what would it be?

Today we are going to explain why we love the idea of setting a goal for 10 years and provide you with three sample goals.

One Goal for The Next 10 Years

Setting a goal to gain 10 pounds of muscle in a month or doubling your back squat in 8 weeks may sound exciting, but fast-tracked goals like this either require unsustainable behaviors to accomplish, or set you up for failure.

This cycle of setting big, unattainable goals, then getting discouraged when you fail to meet them is counterproductive. Your health is for life and we believe that your goals should reflect and support this.

That’s why we love the idea of setting a goal for the next 10 years. Specifically, a goal that is habit based and will keep you working towards the end goal of health for the next decade.

So to help you set your own 10-year goal, here are 3 examples that we love.

1) Strive for Consistency

Set a goal to be consistent. Your health and fitness journey will take time. The small steps you take every day towards your goal are what will eventually get you there. So set a goal to focus on taking those steps every day.

An example of this in practice is setting the goals like:

  • I will go to the gym three days a week every week.
  • I will cook extra every time I make dinner so my lunch is ready for the next day.

Because these consistency goals are so simple you will be able to easily complete them over and over for years to come. It’s this repetition that will help you reach your bigger goals.

2) Move Every Day

We will let you in on a little secret that the fitness industry doesn’t want you to know. One big training session at the gym won’t get you to your goals. What will is moving every day.

So set a goal to walk, bike, row, play basketball, or lift weights daily. Or set a goal to alternate between all of the activities you enjoy. It doesn’t matter what type of movement you do, just strive to do something every day.

3) Love the Journey

For most of our clients, it will take years to reach their goals. This isn’t a bad thing! It just takes time for the body to adapt and there will always be roadblocks along the way. So we suggest that you prepare for this and set a goal to love the journey. Finding exercise, healthy foods, and environments you enjoy are a first step!

Realize that every positive action you take puts you closer to your goals, and every choice to drink water, go for a walk, or eat your greens is a win! Not every day will be fun, but there is great satisfaction in living in alignment with your goals.
